Refinished Hardwood Floors

Another project we completed early this spring (when the snow was still piled high on the ground) was a project that has been a few years in the making... we refinished the hardwood floors in our living room and hallway!  This was the first project we hired out for, and it was worth every penny!

The only hiccup in the entire process came right at the beginning when the guy we hired came with his commercial grade machine to sand the floors.  We soon found out we did not have a 220 volt outlet anywhere in the house (what Andy originally thought might be one when the guy had asked about it, turned out not to be one), and the alternative was also not an option because we did not have a breaker box he could tap into (we still have a fuse box!).  He told us he had not run into this problem for quite some time, and he had no place to plug in the machine to begin the work! Ugh!!

Thankfully, however, he was a resourceful guy, and wasn't going to let that stop him.  He found a power box he could try and tap into under our stove, called an electrician friend of his for proper advice, ran home to get some things he needed to make the power connection, and after a little bit of a delay, we were back on track! Yay!!  From there on out, the process was smooth sailing; even the kids were respectful of the process and didn't do anything to harm the floors before they were fully cured.

March 3, 2019~ Clearing out the living room and taking down the dated stone wall by the front door

March 4, 2019~ All sanded

March 5, 2019~ First coat
March 6, 2019~ Second coat and entertaining the 1 year old;)
After one final coat for added strength, and a full week later, the floors were ready for rugs and furniture again!
We are very pleased with the final outcome... it looks like a brand new floor and has held up very well so far:)
