Trip to Madison

This past weekend, we went to Madison to visit my sister Beth and cousin Sarah! We had a wonderful visit--nice weather, good food, and great company! On Friday, Beth and Sarah took us down to State St to take in some of the sights and sounds (mainly a guy drumming on a bucket;) of Madison. We ate outside at a restaurant then walked down by the lake and enjoyed some delicious ice cream at the Union. On Saturday, we walked to the capital square to go to the highly anticipated farmer's market only to discover they were having an art fair that weekend instead. It was quite the trek due to the hot weather, but all was well when we were able to relax in the shade on the capital lawn and enjoy some refreshing snow cones. While sitting on the lawn, we found out chipmunks are quite the little critters! We heard a little commotion behind us and when we looked back, we saw a chipmunk with the head of a live bird in its mouth! It ran up the tree with it-- hence the picture. We are not quite sure what it did with the bird, but after that, we didn't want Gianna to get too close to their hole in the ground. I never knew they were capable of such a thing!
Gianna's first visit to the state capital, and I think it was the first time Andy and I had been in it since our school trips in elementary school!
During our visit, we surprised Beth and Sarah with a visit from the LaVoys! They came up early Saturday afternoon, and we secretly made plans to meet them for lunch. When we walked into the restaurant, the hostess asked how many, and I said, "We'll sit with them!" Beth looked over and her jaw dropped; she had no idea they were there. It was a fun surprise:)
Cousins at the zoo!
After the zoo, we headed back to our hotel for a swim-- after a hot day out in the sun, it was very refreshing. It was a pretty small pool so it was great that we were the only ones in it at the time:)

Thanks for the nice visit!
